early in the game 10 handed, about 3 folds to me, i look down at
the button, dan, is a tight aggressive player, his table image mirrors chris ferguson, glasses on, very quiet, occasinal joke, but never when he is in a hand. he never speaks when he is in a hand.
flop
nice, i like it, i bet 8 bucks,
dan makes it 30, im still in love with my hand, but hes got about 400 behind him and i got about 350 so stacks are deep, no need to get crazy. i called.
turn
ok blank boo. ill check
he quickly bets 60. now ive rulled out AK and AQ at this point because he would of reraised pre. A6 A8 and a set are the only hands i can put him on. and i call hoping for a heart or a 3.
river
ok definently not what i wanted. i missed my draw, now what im hoping is, he thinks of me as a calling station, and i check and he checks, and he might of missed a flush draw. so i check, he pulls out a stack, and half of another stack. the dealer calls out "140 is the bet" i of course immediatly think about folding, but then i think about it. what can i put him on.
AK, AQ nooooooooooooooooo we rulled that out
AA 66 33 nooooooooooooooo, he slowplays sets, and even if he wasnt, his bet was too large on the flop for him to have a set
A3 A6, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, his bet is too large on the river with all those scare cards out their for him to think if i call he is good.
i put him on a hand like
"you got a busted draw, dan?" no response
"you are just.... bluffing.... out of your ass"
i took about 4 minutes thinking, shuffling chips, to the point where i apologized to the table for taking so long. i ended up sticking in the 140. and dan says, what you got, i said nothing special and flipped over
i was very happy to see him tap the table 3 times, raise his eyebrows and throw in his cards, as the rest of the table goes nuts over the measly pair of threes, and one of the biggest pots that game has ever seen
1-2
i was playing pretty well, feeling good about my game up about 100 bucks. a weak player limped UTG, and i jus wanted to get heads up with him so i made it 9 to go with
and i thought what you thought, this hand is over for me, but we all checked and the turn brought a
a weak player bet 10 bucks, 2 people folded. and i couldnt stand for that so i popped it to 62, 2 more people folded, and the cuttoff raised all in for 120, original better folds, and im immediatly thinking, hey i got caught, gotta muck. but i took a few seconds to think about it, there was around 260 in the pot.
i went with everything i knew about him, i know 2 things for sure, he dosent fold draws, and he bets when he has a hand, no slowplaying.
he like everyone else, checked the flop, which indicates to me he didnt have a hand, exspceailly cuz he was in last position. the 3 only helps him if he has 33, and his all in would of been quicker had he had that or he might of just called. so i put him on a draw, not 10J cuz he didnt bet the flop. butthat made 2 hearts on board, so i figured he had a heart draw.
"do you have a flush draw, eric?"
for the first time in the game he was quiet.
"this is a little silly, but im gonna call you"
i slid in the chips and honestly felt like i had the best of it. i flipped A6 and he did a double take and said "yeah i got a draw" while he turned over
the river was a
and i won the pot.
moral of the story, even if you have nothing, take the time your given to at least put him on a hand, and decide if theres anyway u can win this pot

how do we know?
with a short stack he just called before the flop, this indicates he didnt have any pocket pair or any ace. the flop came out and i checked and he checked. the turn i checked again. this turn paired the board. so if i had him beat on the flop, i still have him beat, his stack probably would bet any pair checked to him on the flop, and prolly wouldnt call pre flop with any type of 5 or 7 or 8, maybe some kind of connector like 76. however if he calls pre flop with 76 he is for sure going to bet a pair on the flop when checked to him. so there is no 2 cards he can have here to have me beat, therefore we can make a call with ace hi, i put him on KJ

so lets see, i had pocket 77 and got a pretty good flop i bet out n got a caller. i was pretty sure he hada draw at this point, something like A6 of diamonds or something turn was a 10, i checked he bet 150, now the only hand that scares me here, is a10 of diamonds, so i decided to make the call, river was a 9. i checked, he immedialty pushed all in. which is an obvious bluff for 3 reasons
1. the only hand he can possibly have here is A10 of diamonds and he wouldnt push with that scary nine on the river.
2. if he for some reason dosent have A10, what does he have A9 but no raise on flop? that dosent make sense cuz why would he bet the turn when the 10 came. 109 is a slight possibility, but he wouldnt be 150 with that on the turn because he would try to keep me in.
3. instantaneous all in, which means he has to have a humongous hand or nothing. he was trying to act strong by acting quick

ok 62 yay fun hand
i flopped a 6 and wanted to take down the pot so i bet 20 i got a call. great. he probably has a draw because he wouldnt call there with any pocket pair. he might have 10j or qj or whatever. anyway turn card was a blank and we went check check. river gave me sixes up. he checks to me. now most people will bet 30 or 40 to try to keep him around, but thats to obvious, if i over bet the pot i can make it look like i missed a draw and was trying to buy it, i bet 80 dollars and was very glad to see a reraise and not surprised to see he had absolutely nothing. im a lil surprised that he didnt jus flat call with ace high, because he should of put me on Q10, when he reraised me i put him on q10, thinking he was trying to buy what was a chop pot in his mind. which is what i wanted, i wanted him to bluff at that pot, and i got him to by overbetting. i did not reraise the river incase he was accidently making a good play with KJ or a set.

i got 99 against the steaming player i jus caught bluffing 4 or 5 hands ago. he knows im way better than him. so i raise it up, and he reraises, which i thought he might do with a lot of hands, 99 is a good hand, but i wanted to see a flop so i called 1083, i checked, i figure if he makes a big bet he has nothing and is trying to buy it, anything else he would play softer against me, like his pair of fives earlier. he bet 100. i was happy to see that bet because it meant i was way far ahead and could pick up the pot right there with a reraise "i raise, make it 300" i raise to 300 and expected to take it right there "im all in" oh what the fuck? ok oopsie surely there is no way he can do that with just overs, so i figured him for overs with a flush draw. i called the measley 130. i had the better hand, he got lucky.
for most players, when your opponent makes a bet into you on the river, and you look down at your hole cards to realize they did not pair, its a quick trip to the muck, but these few heads up hands should make you think twice about throwin that paint away so quick

ok this hand was kind of weird. he bet pre i called, checked down to the river. now he comes out over betting the pot? thats kind of weird. so lets put him on a hand Ax, no hed raise more pre. PP no hed raise more pre. 8? J? an 8 he would bet on the flop and a jack he would bet on the turn. hmm wait how bout a value bet on the deuce? if he was value betting he wouldnt over bet. well then hmm what does he have. he has nothing, theres no hand he can represent here, just a desperate steal at the pot.

ok this ones trickier.
he bet and i made a small raise, very small, just by the way that table was going, i had a feeling he was either calling or making a huge reraise, so i wanted to save some money if he was. my raise was just to take control of the hand. flop comes out and i continuation bet and he quickly calls. immediatley were thinking draw. turn is a 6, we check he check. which immediatly tells me he dosent have a spade draw with 2 overs because thats an easy spot for him to think, "hmm i can bet and win the pot right now, or if not i might hit a spade or any of my hole cards!" but since he check im putting him on a strait draw. river ace of spades. i check and he bets 32. ok well he dosent have an ace, because if he did he dosent have a good kicker cuz he didnt reraise pre, and he wouldnt of called my flop
bet with just ace hi with a bad kicker. so thats out, spades we eliminated. so that really just leaves J9 which is what i thought he had. turns out he had Q9 and was going for the double gut shot with the over.
these are just a few hands i wanted to re go over before i bought in again. hope you all enjoyed. And if you have any questions or comments please do not hesitate to ask. One thing that bugs me when i read an article is that there are ussually parts i don't understand or i think can be improved on, i am always looking to become a better player. If theres something you do not understand please ask, it helps everyone if you do.
